Knowing what people have made is a wonderful start. It isn’t the end of making things.
Familiar words. A familiar rectangle. Someone still had to decide what to put here, what to leave out, and whether it was worth your time.
Having ingredients is a start. Making something of them is the interesting part.
A child calls the moon a fingernail clipping. Someone may have said it before. That doesn’t make the moment any less theirs, or the person beside them any less delighted.
You notice something that doesn’t quite fit. Before you can look up the answer, you have to work out what you’re asking.
A habit from the kitchen can help you in the workshop. A music lesson might change how you explain a hard problem. Useful ideas don’t always stay in the department they came from. And that’s incredibly exciting.
You’re relieved, but also a little sad. Grateful, but not ready to talk. The nearest word doesn’t quite do it. So you try a sentence. Or you invent a new word. Yes, you can do that.
